November 18, 2022
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month, bringing the plight of those facing the diagnosis, and the need for a cure, to the forefront. Today, there are more than 6.2 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s Disease, and while research continues, a cure is yet to be identified. Arrow Senior Living is working to heighten awareness of Alzheimer’s disease during the month of November through discussion and education.
Alzheimer’s Disease is one of the most common forms of dementia. It’s a terrible disease that progresses overtime. Alzheimer’s impacts memory and other cognitive functioning that interferes with performing activities of daily living. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease; however, scientists are working diligently to find one. There are known medications that can help treat symptoms and slow down the progression of the disease.
We can support and engage our loved ones with Alzheimer’s by creating a structured routine that revolves around their favorite hobbies, care products, and foods. By implementing a person-centered routine, we can better engage and care for our residents. This makes them feel most at home. In our Neighborhood, we utilize a detailed engagement plan to help guide staff, friends, and family on the best approach for each resident living with cognitive impairment.
Residents residing in our Memory Care Neighborhood are safe and loved. Our Neighborhood provides a daily routine, caters to every resident’s likes and dislikes, and we even have friendly dogs residing in our Neighborhood! Residents and families benefit from our dementia trained staff that create engagement and a home-like environment making this home for all of us.
