The Vitalia Active Adult Community – Rockside Executive Director Shares How He Got His Start in Senior Living

Senior living has certainly changed over the past decade. An industry that once provided very little hands-on care has blossomed into a wonderful option for older adults. It now provides varying levels of assistance with residents’ activities of daily living, while arranging many opportunities for socialization and community. I am fortunate to work for Arrow Senior Living leading the Vitalia Active Adult Community – Rockside team. I would like to share a little about my journey to becoming a senior living leader.

I got into senior living by accident. Before this, I worked as a Director of Operations for a larger investment company that focused on the restaurant industry. During my tenure in that position, I would travel for most of the week throughout the United States visiting different business operations or new development. I choose to leave that career to spend more time with my family. That’s when I took the leap to try something new and found myself in senior living.

I enjoy everything about senior living, but what I love most are my daily interactions with the residents. I can see how every decision I make affects the quality of their life. Enriching people’s lives, at the late stage of life, brings great enjoyment to me. On the business side, I enjoy the daily and long-term challenges and building a great team of co-workers that have the same goals in mind as I do.

I have found Arrow Senior Living to be completely different than any other company I have worked for. Their vision as a company aligns with my goals and values. They value and treat all their employees as family and listen to concerns that we have. They are also not afraid to step outside of the box and try new things.

I think the past few years have been very challenging. With COVID-19, inflation, and other challenges, how we handle the upcoming years with staffing, quality of services, and care will determine the success of the industry. I would tell someone considering a career in senior living management that it is extremely rewarding.
