As our homes go through the freeze and thaw cycles, it is important that we take valuable and proactive steps to prevent issues. Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, the northern hemisphere begins to see the winter-scape come back to life with daffodils blooming, grass greening, and temperatures warming during late March into early April. As exciting as that can be, so many things need to be done to prepare for the warmer season, including spring cleaning, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors tested, and filters changed.
At work we prepare for warmer weather by spring cleaning the outside sheds and storage areas, then we clean off any patio furniture and fixtures. Next, we move inside and work on giving the common areas a refresh. This may be anything from corrective painting to cleaning hard-to-reach windows.
Being able to get rid of junk that may have been stored over the winter is very helpful, especially if you’re short on storage. There’s also a lot of mental health benefits to having a clean and clear workspace. That helps a person focus on their job and life.
When it warms, I start walking and hiking in the Cleveland Metroparks to get some fresh air and sun. I also try to plan a trip to Tennessee in May to enjoy the Smokey Mountains before the weather gets too warm for my liking.
