Memory Care HERstory

My name is Jessica Moore, and I’m the memory care director here at Vitalia Active Adult Community – Rockside. In honor of Women’s History Month, I want to take a moment to celebrate Debra, one of our neighborhood residents! 

Debra, Debi, Debs, or Debsie Doodlebug is a bubbly, fun-loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Debs worked at a school for troubled youth and spent her summers at the cottage with the family in Pennsylvania. Her positive and vibrant personality lights up the neighborhood and all those around her.

It’s important to honor these stories and reminisce on the history with our loved ones with dementia. There is so much to learn from our residents and their life experiences, even if our loved ones have difficulty sharing them. Honoring the stories and history of our loved ones provides an extreme amount of purpose to all of us in the neighborhood.

In the Vitalia Rockside neighborhood, with the help of family members, we personalize residents’ nixplays outside their apartment doors. By showing pictures on the screens of their loved ones or old family photos, residents enjoy sharing stories behind the images.
